8 Greatest TV Battles That Ever Hit The Screen

2. True Detective – Who Goes There

There's not a huge amount of action in the first season of True Detective, which makes the end of Who Goes There particularly memorable. After four episodes of gradually building tension, it all culminates in one of the most frantic action sequences to ever hit the screen.

Matthew McConaughey's Rust Cohle attempts to infiltrate the Iron Crusaders by posing as a former security officer for the Mexican cartel. In an attempt to convince them he's legit, he commits to helping member Ginger rob a stash house in the projects. This robbery goes awry, however, and when a resident is shot all hell breaks loose, with many using the opportunity to loot and murder. Adding to the tension, Rust is forced to take matters into his own hands, taking Ginger hostage and revealing his true loyalty.

The whole sequence is shot in a single mind-blowing take, following Rust throughout the entire neighbourhood while spotting threats like police helicopters and armed thugs, tracking him through shoot-outs and nearly mortal encounters until he and Ginger are finally out of danger.
