6. Cybernetic Implants
So, being turned into a Cyberman would pretty much suck, but that doesn't mean that cybernetic augmentation isn't on the cards for humanity. We're already making the transition, both technologically and psychologically, with the growing market in wearable tech. Soon, those FitBits and Google Glasses could be implanted straight into your body, and we're already well on the way to creating mind-controlled prosthetic limbs. Some of the most popular implants of the future are likely to be retinal implants. A natural progression from smart contact lenses, you might one day be able to add a head-up display to your field of vision, or even manually zoom and focus your eyes. You might be able to implant devices to keep your heart healthy, or even boost your physical capabilities like strength and stamina. Even more like the Cybermen, there may also one day be a kind of brain patch to regulate mood, enhance memory or even download new knowledge and experiences. Who knows, in the next hundred years or so we could even see a rise in downloadable digital "drugs". Perhaps we're just slowly turning ourselves into Cybermen, only time will tell.
