Including the 14 main actors who have portrayed the Doctor (thirteen Doctors plus John Hurt's War Doctor), 22 actors have starred as the Doctor in some way, shape, or form. Tom Baker and David Tennant have both portrayed two incarnations of the character. Baker portrayed both the Fourth Doctor and The Curator, a future incarnation featured in The Day Of The Doctor, and Tennant portrayed both the Tenth Doctor and the Metacrisis Doctor in Journey's End.

Aside from William Hartnell, three other actors have portrayed the First Doctor. Adrian Gibbs portrayed 'The Watcher,' a future incarnation of The Doctor in 1981's Logopolis, and both Geoffrey Hughes and Michael Jayston have portrayed another future incarnation of the Time Lord in the form of The Valeyard. Toby Jones portrayed a psychic manifestation of The Doctor, 'The Dream Lord' in 2010's Amy's Choice, and finally, an unknown actor played the young Doctor on Gallifrey in 2014's Listen.
