One of the biggest open goals for Big Finish is pairing up Paul McGann's 8th Doctor and Richard E Grant's alternative 9th "Shalka" Doctor for a story where they go on holiday by mistake and get threatened with a dead fish by a belligerent Zygon. For now, we'll just have to make do with 1987's classic comedy about male friendship, Withnail & I.

Two out-of-work actors Withnail (Grant) and I (McGann) living in filth and squalor decide to get away from it all by decamping to Withnail's rich uncle Monty's country pile. The predatory Uncle Monty is played by Richard Griffiths, who was actually considered for the role of the Doctor several times during the '80s. The two city actors are, naturally, completely unprepared for country life. It's classic fish out of water comedy, but it's also a moving story of failed ambition and the dashing of the hopes of 1960s Britain.

McGann and Grant are wonderful together. There's such easy chemistry as two friends in a toxic and co-dependent relationship, who love and hate each other in equal measure. If Big Finish ever were to pair both actors together the prospect of Withnail & I being back together would be more exciting than teaming up the 8th and Shalka Doctors.
