8 Reasons Now Is The Perfect Time To Revive Twin Peaks
8. The '25 Years Later' In Cooper's Dream Is Almost Up
Very early in season one, audiences were introduced to one of the most surreal dreams in TV history; Dale Cooper wakes up in the Black Lodge 25 years older and is introduced to a dwarf and his cousin, who looks exactly like Laura Palmer (she feels like she knows her but sometimes her arms bend back...just roll with it!). At first glance, it's just the insanity of David Lynch's mind but taking in the show as a whole it's the foreshadowing for a whole lot more. Given the events of the series finale, it's possible that this isn't the supernatural touching on Cooper's mind but a vision of his own future, trapped there after his doppelgänger escapes to wreak havoc under the influence of the evil Bob. It gives audiences hope that even though the ending with dark and tragic there is a good Cooper still trapped in the Black Lodge after his futile attempt to save Annie. Given the passage of time, those 25 years are almost up. Come 2015, could we see the good Cooper finally escape to find a world changed around him and the legacy of his evil himself still alive in Twin Peaks? Given the need for an event to springboard a new series, this could be it. After all, Laura Palmer told him she would see him again in 25 years. In the meantime, get yourself reacquainted with a backwards-talking dwarf and the infamous red curtains... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjeRCsoufII
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
