2. Nivea Tells Black Men To "Re-Civilize Yourself"
How do you offend an entire race of people with a single print advertisement? Oh, just suggest that they're savages because of their nappy hairstyles. It might be one thing if this was an advertisement for an electric razor (the point being that his hair is too long), but this is for a lotion. There's literally no reason to point out this guy's afro as a negative part of his appearance. And first of all, that's a goddamn sweet afro, and any one of us would be lucky to be able to grow something that glorious atop our heads. But more importantly, why are only clean-cut, preppy black people worthy of being called "civilized?" And since when does having long hair make it look like "you don't give a damn?"
