8 Scary TV Treats Coming This Halloween
4. Channel Zero
When & Where: Syfy, from October 26. The previous two seasons have had their UK premiere on 5Star on Halloween night itself for the past two years. There's no word on 5Star doing the same with the third season this year, however. If not, then the earlier episodes are available on horror streaming service Shudder.
Like Lore, Channel Zero is a horror anthology show with a slightly unlikely online source, in this case the "creepypasta" of widely shared horror memes and micro-fictions.
Most people will be familiar with the Slender Man, easily the most iconic example of creepypasta, but after 2018 saw yet another mediocre Slender Man movie, Channel Zero is well placed to be the discerning horror fan's creepypasta adaptation of choice, drawing from some of the less universally well-known sources.
The first season was inspired by monstrous children's TV puppet show Candle Cove (one of the most genuinely disturbing pieces of online creepypasta), but it's the most recent third season (based on Search and Rescue Woods and starring Rutger Hauer and Teen Wolf's Holland Roden) that has picked up the best reviews for tying together nightmarish surrealism and a relatively realistic take on schizophrenia.
In the UK, we've only seen the first two seasons with original broadcaster 5Star unsure whether to pick up the third.
For US viewers, however, Channel Zero producers Syfy have a whole new season (based on the Reddit creepypasta "I Found a Hidden Door in My Cellar, and I Think I've Made a Big Mistake") airing an episode a night leading up to a finale on Halloween night itself.
