8 Supporting Mad Men Characters Who Stole The Show

5. Ida Blankenship

Ida Blankenship Following Don's previous relationship with his secretary Joan, he gave Don Ida Blankenship as his next secretary to prevent any future problems. Ida didn't make things easy for him though, as her fumbles cause confusion and errors in the office. Her blunt approach adds comedy to the show that I don't believe will be beaten, but for me, her finest moment comes in her death. In Episode nine 'The Beautiful Girls' of series four Peggy finds Ida Blankenship dead at her desk. To get her out of the building they cover her in Harry Crane's blanket . You see all this from the boardroom where there is a meeting with an account. The pure farce of the moment is genius and is, in my view, the funniest moment in the show. Roger Sterling acknowledged her death 'She died as she lived, surrounded by people she answered phoned for'. Luckily Bert Cooper put together a heart felt obituary "She was born in 1898 in a barn. She died on the 37th floor of a skyscraper. She's an astronaut."
