8 Things Fans Actually Wanted From Game Of Thrones Season 8

4. The Importance Of Jon's Lineage.

For years Jon’s lineage was hinted at as story beat. Forever berated for being the Bastard of Ned Stark, Jon always longed for a sense of identity. With such an importance in family running throughout the show, he was a blank slate, and a black mark on House of Stark.

Yet through one of Bran’s visions, we finally learned the truth. Not only was he Stark, but also a Targaryen, and the true heir to The Iron Throne. It was a momentous occasion to find that the person that deserved the crown the most, had the best claim to it. Yet when it narrowed down to the point of who would actually sit on the throne, Jon’s lineage was but a hushed secret, swept under the rug.

Other than swaying a few naysayers of Daenerys, Jon’s true lineage had no real impact on the ending of the show, despite being a story thread present from episode one. Even any fears of Daenerys turning on Jon as he realised his true identity were swiftly abandoned, as the Queen saw it as the potential for a more unified rule – even if they were related.

Many fans thought it as the endgame material needed to stir up the Game of Thrones those final few notches, and could have made for some good drama, if properly used. Alas, Jon’s true name of Aegon Targaryen was nothing more than that. A name.
