8 Things Game Of Thrones Did Better Than A Song Of Ice And Fire

7. More Points of View

Game Of Thrones
HBO

Martin structures his books with a point-of-view character in each chapter. The first book gives us eight distinctive voices: Bran, Catelyn, Daenerys, Eddard, Jon, Tyrion, Arya, and Sansa, while the most recent book has sixteen different point-of-view characters.

While sixteen seems like a lot, in a world as expansive as Martin's, it still leaves out a majority of his cast.

The show departs from this model, giving us scenes from the point-of-view of just about every character. We get to see the world according to Littlefinger, explore the creepy yet sweet relationship between Margaery and Tommen, and have front row seats to Joffrey's cruelty.

Since much of what makes the story compelling is the scope of the world, giving us the perspective of more characters makes the world of Westeros feel more lived in.
