8 TV Shows That Were Damaged By Their Own Fans
1. Chappelle's Show Was Cancelled Because Of Fan Stupidity
Chappelle's Show is an American sketch comedy TV series created by Dave Chapelle and Neal Brennan. It consists of a bunch of sketches the majority of which star Dave. The show began in 2003 and came to an end in 2006, and fans played a huge part in the show's ending.
During its runtime Chappelle became increasingly frustrated by the fact that many fans didn't really “get” the humour, and thought that hearing a black man using a racial slur was supposed to be the funny part. This contributed to Chappelle's own concern that fans thought the show was humorous due to his race rather than his content.
This issue was further compounded by the fact that fans would routinely shout “I'm Rick James, bitch!” at live standup shows, a reference to arguably the show's most popular sketch. This happened so much and interrupted Chappelle so often that he actually stopped mid-performance out of anger and frustration. In the end, this pressure dealt by the Chappelle's Show's fans lead him to pack the whole thing in.
