8 Unanswered Questions From Stranger Things Season 3
Season 3 was a dazzling homage to the 80s with satisfying arcs and unanswered mysteries...
The third season of hit sci-fi horror show Stranger Things debuted it's third season on Netflix on July 4th, to a positive reception from critics and fans. Season 3 proved to be a homage to the eighties like no other, blending a balanced amount of nostalgia with a fresh, compelling story that is, at times, horrifying. The show played tribute to a number of classic story tropes such as a grisly hospital chase and a Russian spy subplot, with a bigger CGI budget for more spine-chilling monsters.
Characters underwent trying and traumatic circumstances in order to uncover the gruesome mysteries in Hawkins, Indiana. The show displayed to audiences the summertime adventures of Eleven, Mike, Dustin and the rest of the Party as they battled the Mind Flayer once again.
New characters such as Robin (Maya Hawke) and Alexei (Alec Utgoff) were introduced, balancing the scales with established fan favorites such as Hopper, Joyce and Murray. The stakes were impossibly high this season, with dire consequences for characters and new hurdles for the heroes to overcome.
Despite the satisfying - and seemingly resolute - conclusions to many character arcs and plot lines, Stranger Things 3 still left some unanswered mysteries for the next season. The seeds have been planted for a Stranger Things 4, with the show's usage of it's first ever post-credits scene. With the next season potentially being its last, it will be interesting to see how these mysteries will unfold.
8. Who Were The People In The Upside Down?
The Upside Down, a dark and deathly parallel dimension to our reality, wasn't featured as heavily this season. The Mind Flayer managed to wreak his havoc in the real world, thanks to the Russian subplot in Hawkins. The few scenes shown of the Upside Down occurred in a couple of episodes, as Billy Hargrove found himself wandering through there after his first confrontation with the Mind Flayer.
It was during these scenes that Billy interacted with, seemingly, a doppleganger of himself. This mirror image seemed to represent the Mind Flayer's presence in Billy's mind, but who were the other people in the background behind Upside Down-Billy?
It is possible that the Mind Flayer had simply already managed to ensnare more Flayed victims and they too could have represented the minds the entity had trapped. Could it be possible, however, that was something else mysteriously represented? It is highly unlikely any of the people possessed by the Mind Flayer, in an homage to Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers, could return considering their grisly end. Could there be other people trapped in the Upside Down, however? And if so, does that mean certain characters thought to be lost could come back?
