8 Ways It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Could End

2. It Was Hell All Along

If viewers have learned anything from shows like The Good Place, it's that the old concepts of fire and brimstone as eternal damnation have faded in favour of ironic torture. One such example is sticking multiple toxic people together and forcing them to create misery for each other, which can be seen in this group.

Always Sunny has already dipped its toes into the idea of the gang being in the afterlife, so why not shock everyone by going all the way? The appropriately titled "The Gang Goes To Hell" could even prove to be the point where they made it into the eternal abyss.

Although the idea of placing the loveable - yet awful - cast into such a scenario is unbelievably dark, it's also something that would make sense narratively, as it's already been subtly addressed In "Paddy's Pub: The Worst Bar In Philadelphia". This episode concluded with the critic the gang accidentally kidnapped declaring that he won't press charges because their existence is a "Hell on Earth" already.

Ultimately, the gang will probably end up suffering the consequences of their actions, and showing that they're already being punished would be a great way to do that.
