9 Upcoming Original Amazon TV Shows You Should Be Excited About

1. The Man In The High Castle

The most high-profile of Amazon's new shows, and the biggest and riskiest they've attempted to tackle so far. It's based on the novel of the same name by legendary sci-fi author Philip K. Dick, set in an alternate history world where the Axis powers won World War II. Following defeat in the war, America has been taken over and split into three very distinct regions. There's a German puppet state, the Great Nazi Reich, which comprises what was the Eastern side of the US; the Pacific States of America, a Japanese puppet state, which is everywhere west of the Rocky Mountains; and a neutral zone, called the Rocky Mountain states. It'll follow the rising tensions among the Axis powers as they attempt to rule the former United States, and focus on characters from both major areas finding their way to the neutral zone. The show stars Alexa Davalos (Mob City) and Luke Kleintank (Bones), and is the most-watched and best-reviewed pilot on Amazon to date. David Semel (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) directed, with Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files) writing, so there's a very strong team behind the scenes. If all goes well, then this could be the first streaming show to really be the equivalent of the huge, sprawling epics usually seen on the likes of HBO.
