Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From Season 2

4. Fitz€™s Road To Recovery - Up

Can FitzSimmons work when it is separated into Fitz and Simmons? It was an answer the show decided it had to give an answer to, and it was a resounding yes. Largely defined as one entity in the first season, the brain trauma suffered by Fitz meant that Simmons left so he could focus on his recovery. Her role as an undercover Hydra agent was a great new direction for the character, but it was Fitz - as played by Iain De Caestecker - who really shone as he struggled to deal with his injuries. He€™s helped to recovery by Mack, with a great bond forming between the two, which makes the latter€™s €˜betrayal€™ hit even harder, and Fitz breaks down and has to rebuild himself yet again. Eventually he and Simmons are reunited properly, and their relationship is set to be all the better for it (at least until that season finale cliffhanger) and it was an excellent arc for a character who has really developed into the heart of the show.
