5. Jemma Simmons
Who She Is: Jemma Simmons is the biochemist half of the Fitz-Simmons genius duo. Shes been around from the very first episode and undergone a journey that transformed her from brilliant scientist to capable agent in the field as well as in the lab. Why She Could Die: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. loves to put Fitz-Simmons through the wringer, and the show has done everything to split them apart except for actually killing one of them. Of the two, Simmons is the more objectively replaceable. Lincoln has biological and Inhuman knowledge if not her natural genius, and Fitz has an unparalleled inventiveness that makes him invaluable to the series. If one of the Fitz-Simmons duo is going to die, Simmons is the more logical of the two. Why She Might Not: Simmons has survived impossible circumstances already in Season 3; killing her off would be a waste of her incredibly compelling development. Besides, the show cant really split Fitz-Simmons forever, right? Whether they stay friends or become something more, theyre the closest thing that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has to an epic ongoing love story. Simmons may be arguably replaceable as a scientist, but she isnt replaceable as a character.
