Agents Of SHIELD: 8 Mistakes It Needs To Fix In Season 3
5. A Lack Of Focus
On the home straight of season 2, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to shake things up a bit further, with the unveiling of Robert Gonzales' 'real' S.H.I.E.L.D. It turned out that's who Mack and Bobbi had been working for, an organisation that wanted to oust Coulson and believed in transparency rather than operating in the shadows (you sense the irony was lost on them). Having two versions of the organisation, with similar goals but very different methods, was an excellent idea, and could've been a great story arc. However, because it arrived as the Inhumans story was reaching its climax, it too often felt like an afterthought; a cool idea they'd suddenly had and thrown in, without quite working out the specifics. If it'd happened at another time it would've been really enjoyable, but as it was just felt rushed in. That lack of focus did a fair bit of damage, and although it managed to repair things by the season finale, it seems an unnecessary move to make. Season 3 needs to ensure that it has a much tighter focus on its plotlines, and that each gets plenty of time to grow and develop, and they don't need to rush into a conclusion.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
