As it approaches its third season, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally starting to become the sort of show it should've been all along. It's still far from perfect, but it has made considerable progress since the early days of season 1, when it was questionable if it was even worth watching at all.

Now it has really found its feet, despite a few more stumbles along the way, to feel like something that is a worthy addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Season 2 capitalised on the momentum gained by the Captain America: The Winter Soldier tie-in, and really started to build up a head of steam.

It took risks in its storytelling, and even if it didn't always come off that's to be applauded, and it left things in a very exciting state for season 3. There's Skye and Coulson jetting off together, the Terrigen Crystals in the fish oil capsules, new (and old) threats to the team, and the question of just what the hell happened to Simmons.

That should all add up to some really exciting and interest storylines this season, which will hopefully see it cement its place as a genuinely good and consistent comic-book show, which its Marvel stablemates Agent Carter and Daredevil managed in their first seasons. With a lot of potential plot to go through, here's 10 major predictions for season 3...

10. A Civil War Tie-In

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has thus far had tie-ins with two Marvel movies, both coinciding with the back-half of its seasons: 1 had The Winter Solider, and 2 had Age of Ultron. The amount these tied-in, and the success, was wildly different.

The Captain America link was the catalyst for the show to really start delivering on action and story arcs, and without it the show may have sunk. The Avengers, meanwhile, was more of a throwaway line, and didn't really help serve the plot.

If they're going to continue these movie tie-ins, which I'm assuming they are, then it'll be Captain America: Civil War. This should actually be a good fit for S.H.I.E.L.D., given the nature of the film and the controversy surrounding who holds the heroes to account. That's essentially a part of what the S.H.I.E.L.D. organisation was, so they could well be an important part in exploring that story further outside of Team Stark and Team Rogers.
