The pilot episode of the series premiered at SXSW back in March, and is reported to have received rapturous applause from the audience, with Variety noting that it "drew raucous laughter, applause and outright cheers from the packed house."

A number of outlets have now reviewed the opening episodes, and they been been generally positive about it. It boasts 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (albeit from just 9 reviews so far), and 80% from 4 reviews on Metacritic. Not conclusive proof, but certainly a good starting point.

The AV Club gave it a B+, calling it a "successful adaptation," while Collider gave it 4 stars. Reviewing the pilot episode, Birth.Movies.Death said it was "...thrilling and smart and utterly fearless," with Forbes stating: "...the unfilmable has been televised, and so far it's everything it needs to be."

Although it's still early days, that's a pretty strong consensus so far, and thankfully we won't have too long before Heaven and Hell is unleashed on the world.

Preacher debuts on AMC on May 22. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments.
