American Horror Story: 10 Craziest Fan Theories

10. American Horror Story: Monopoly

Now that Ryan Murphy has officially confirmed that Freak Show contains clues about Season 5, fans have begun poring over every scene, determined to discover the focus for the next series. Fortunately, Murphy revealed a big clue recently, stating that a recurring top hat motif is a big signifier for what's to come. The most clear example of this symbolism can be seen when a cop hands Maggie a coffee cup with a top hat on it, but the motif also recurs in a variety of other ways, including The Top Hat Diner, the coffee cups used at the toy shop and even Edward Mordrake's costume. Eagle-eyed fans have come up with a number of theories regarding what the top hat actually means, but one of the most outlandish suggests that the symbolism is connected to the character of Mr. Moneybags from the popular board game Monopoly. The Reddit user who originally conceived this idea surmises from this that Season 5 could be set in 1920's Atlantic City, exploring the seedy casino scene. While this may be a stretch somewhat, this could certainly provide an exciting backdrop for whatever the AHS team have cooked up next and it is true that the writers enjoy using wildly varied settings. Put your money on a zombie themed season where the dead casino owners come back to life and popularise the beloved children's game Monopoly. Do not pass go, do not eat brains.
