American Horror Story: 10 Most Hated Episodes
4. Chapter 10 (S6E10)
Roanoke was a strange divergence from past seasons. Very little was released plot wise and fans didn't even know the title of the season until episode one. There were rumors, but nothing was ever confirmed. It was all a mystery.
The decision to shoot the season like a paranormal documentary was unusual, but worked in its favor. The first half of the season was the documentary. You had those being interviewed and a re-enactment playing alongside it.
The second half of the season switched it up. Following the success of the documentary, the producers bring the cast and real-life people back to the Roanoke house during the blood moon to capture the hauntings live. With many not believing the story to be true, it all goes downhill when the ghosts appear and begin killing everyone off.
The season overall was received with mostly positive reviews. The season finale was met with more of a question mark. Taking place after the events of the return to the Roanoke house, the finale chooses to focus on the only survivor, Lee.
Though fans were given a wonderful surprise cameo of Lana Winters, the episode seemed to be less of a wrap up and more of a footnote to the story. Perhaps it was due to the numerous change of shooting styles (documentary, interview, etc) or maybe it was due to the rushed conclusion of the story, either way, the finale of Roanoke was a strange ending to a relatively solid season.
