American Horror Story: 10 Most Horrific Moments

3. M Is For Margaret

American Horror Story Roanoke
FX

Season: Roanoke

Episode: 2 - "Chapter 2"

Rating: 4/5 Bloody Faces

What a palaver - there has already been ritual burnings, pig men, and now the killer nurses from Roanoke have set the scene for what could be the bloodiest series yet. At one point it seems that the old Roanoke house had been used as a retirement home, just as Briacliff Manor has a dark house, as did the Murder House.

What sets the Roanoke nurses apart from your standard Horror Story fare is their basis in real life - that's right, the two nurses are based on Gwen Graham and Cathy Wood, who were arrested in 1988 for the murders of five elderly ladies in Michigan. The two fell in love, but soon after it all fell apart. They were arrested when Wood spilled news of their murders to her ex-husband. Unlike in the show, the real Graham and Wood's plan fell through because the women with the suitable names to spell out M-U-R-D-E-R wouldn't go quietly.

However, remaining true to source, the murder with a wash cloth scene came straight from the lives of Graham and Woods themselves. Ryan Murphy does like to do his research!
