Poor Vivien. The beleaguered matriarch of the Harmon family (Connie Britton), as the central lead in Murder House Vivien arguably suffered the most during the first season, enduring a failing marriage, an unexpected pregnancy, spooky goings on with the neighbours and her own house. However, it all falls short to her attack and sexual assault by the Rubber Man, one of Season 1's most iconic images (especially during promotional pictures). Vivien awakens one night to find herself being seduced by a man in a leather gimp suit she assumes is her husband Ben, attempting a physical and emotional reconnection with Vivien following his adultery and her subsquent miscarriage. She consents under this illusion, but soon discovers that the rough sex she experienced was not only a sexual assault and rape by the twisted Tate, attempting to procure children, but that she is experiencing a mysterious, and sinister, pregnancy. And all this happens in the first ever episode. Spooky indeed...
