10. Family Ties (1982)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H3JuQUQTLQ Family Ties was to 80's America what Home Improvement was to the 90's a feel-good situation comedy with a catchy theme about a middle-to-upper class white family in suburbia. The jokes were rarely triggers for anything controversial and you could let the children watch it without having to supervise them. It also provided the launchpad for Michael J Fox who, while filming Family Ties, agreed to shoot the first Back to the Future movie at night and would travel between sets for several weeks at a time to meet both commitments. Fox also met his future wife Tracy Pallon on the show after she was cast to play his girlfriend in 1987. The Theme Song, "Without Us", was composed by Jeff Barry and Tom Scott in 1982. It's a feel good performance about two people in love who decided to raise a family and it's opening chords became one of the most instantly recognisable pieces of music on US television at the time. It was performed by Deniece Williams and Johnny Mathis, except for the first ten episodes, where it was performed by Dennis Tufano and Mindy Sterling. We'd also like to remind you that listening to this, as opposed to 'When A Child Is Born', would be a much more valuable use of your time this Festive season!
