Arrow Season 7 Finale: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'You Have Saved This City'
1. Some Answers, More Questions
While the conclusion of the Arrow finale was incredibly ambiguous, it did provide viewers with some much-needed answers regarding one of the season's biggest mysteries.
Last year's Elseworlds crossover saw Oliver Queen make a game-changing deal with The Monitor in an attempt to save Barry Allen and Kara Danvers from death. While many speculated that he offered up his own life in exchange for theirs, we were all kept in the dark and presumed that we wouldn't get any answers until the beginning of Season 8 at the earliest.
Thus, The Monitor's unexpected arrival in the finale was a nice surprise. Moreover, it was a surprise that reminded Oliver that he had a promise to keep while officially alerting viewers that the end is indeed nigh - not just for the Emerald Archer, but for Arrow itself.
Whatever awaits him (and future Felicity) on the other side of that portal is a mystery we may or may not get the answers to but, as far as setting up the final season goes, The Monitor's surprise return was undoubtedly an effective method of teasing us with what's to come.
Now, for the negatives.
