Arrow Season 8 Premiere Review: 10 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Starling City'
4. Oliver And Diggle's Reunion
As Moira Queen introduced Oliver to his "new" bodyguard, even he couldn't help but smile with nostalgia as he was met by what he presumed was the Earth-2 version of John Diggle. And it was a great moment too, not only because of that nostalgia, but because it was expertly and beautifully woven into the storyline.
The shock, however, came when Oliver (and all of us) discovered that it wasn't actually Earth-2's John Diggle, but instead our Diggle. Like the loyal friend that he has always been, the OG Diggle came to assist his brother in arms in what could very well end up being his final mission.
The pair's heart-warming bond has always been a part of the show, but it was a major focal point of the first couple of seasons - before it got lost in the midst of Team Arrow, Olicity, OTA vs. NTA and other unnecessary drama that quickly resulted in Diggle feeling irrelevant.
But the fact of the matter is that in this premiere episode, he felt more relevant than ever and it was downright perfection to see these two unite for one last mission together. The theatrics and heroics started with them, so it's only fitting that they're together at the end.
This time, however, they have another familiar face in their corner...
