Better Call Saul: 10 Things You Need To Know

3. It Delves Into Saul's Back Story

Whilst reports and that comic look like the series will occasionally dip into the events of and following Breaking Bad, for the most part Better Call Saul will be focussing on the early days of the attorney's career. It's back in 2002, a few years before Breaking Bad started, and at least at the beginning of the show he's working as an actual lawyer. Like, one who goes to court and everything. Gilligan has said he liked "the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law" including settling on the courthouse steps, but it doesn't look like Saul's going to begin that way. He's also not going to start off being called Saul, with that name apparently turning out to be an affectation like Heisenberg. In fact, it's revealed rather early on (it's in all the trailers and everything) that Saul Goodman's real name is James McGill; or Jimmy, as he's called on numerous occasions. Which makes sense, because €œs'all good man€ is a pretty silly joke name. The show will delve further into what made him the law-breaking, dodgy attorney he was in Breaking Bad.
