Black Mirror: Ranking Every Episode From Worst To Best

7. Hang The DJ

The romantic nature of this episode, along with its more upbeat tone, means it (unfairly) draws heavy comparisons to San Junipero, but there's a lot going on here that allows Hang The DJ to stand on its own two feet as one of Black Mirror's better episodes.

Taking place in a walled-off society where people are matched into romantic relationships with an expiry date, until the person can find their ultimate partner, we're given the story of Amy (Georgina Campbell) and Frank (Joe Cole), who've been paired together, albeit briefly.

What follows manages to be a pitch-perfect satire of apps such as Tinder, with a bit of Siri thrown in for good measure, that gives the episode the kind of technological relevance and relatability that helped make the show so great in the first place. It's smartly written and never unbelievable, but best of all is the central relationship at its core, which feels authentic and sweet without ever being overly sentimental.
