Blood Of Zeus Review: 9 Ups And 2 Downs
9. Up: The Settings And Background Art
One of the series's greatest strengths is how it makes the audience feel like they're in a true epic. This is instilled in large part by the beautiful settings presented in the series, from the earthly cities and colourful countryside, to the gorgeous and godly Mount Olympus itself, a place worthy of the gods who live in it.
The vision of the background artists cannot be understated, transporting audiences to places beyond what most of Hollywood's blockbusters could ever dream. The colours and painted, almost classical feel of the establishing shots are a true highlight, not only within the show itself, but also when the viewer gets to see the process and thought put into how each background was crafted, and how they contribute to the narrative.
A great example of this is seen in the underworld, where the different portions of Hades - from the bright fields of Asphodel to the darkest places of punishment in Tartarus. Another still is the place where the Fates reside, both the exterior garden and its strange trees, and the interior full of the beautiful and mysterious spiderweb strings of fate.
