Blood Of Zeus Review: 9 Ups And 2 Downs
6. Up: The Creature Design
The creature design in the show goes above and beyond, in some ways even more so than the designs of the gods they often oppose. From the mythic flying steeds of more human characters to the monsters that pursue them, to the horrific giants that the gods felled in battle, it's clear just how much thought was put into these creatures, especially when you know a bit about the myths they come from.
The giants, or gigantes, did indeed go to war with the Olympians, and some of the giants seen marching in opposition to the gods have actually been described in myths, such as the hundred-handed Hecatoncheires. With or without that sort of a backstory, the designs are varied and disturbing, with impressive powers that make for jaw-dropping battles.
Even if most of these characters don't speak a word, they still express subtle yet evocative motives that come into play later in the story.
Some attention must also be given to the "creatures" who do speak in the narrative - such as the centaurs, whose designs are just as interesting as their more beastly counterparts.
