Breaking Bad: 10 Times Walter White Made You Genuinely Root For Him

4. Beating Up The Bullies

Breaking Bad Walter White
AMC

Another moment from season one but a poignant one at that, Walt essentially shows us his love and devotion to his son in this one brilliant scene.

Out shopping for clothes, Walt overhears a group of school bullies mocking his son, Walter Jr., and takes some drastic and unexpected action to shut them up in the store.

Marching back round the front and taking the main instigator out with a beautiful crushing of his calf, Walt gets right up the faces of the three boys and encourages them to take their best shot at him.

It happens so early on the in series that it's the first unexpected act we get to see from Walt, but an important one nonetheless.

Walt's entire story - at least to himself - throughout the show is that he is entering the drug world to simply provide for his family and leave them something behind. This is an early indication to convince us of that love he has for his family, further allowing us to buy in to his methods as the show progresses.
