Breaking Bad: 10 Worst Things Gus Fring Has Ever Done
3. Denying Hector Salamanca A Recovery From His Stroke
Gus' arc in Breaking Bad is all about his lust for revenge. The cartel had killed his partner and forced him to work in line with them for twenty years, but the kingpin's vendetta never lost any potency. And, out of all the members of the cartel, Gus' hatred stretched the furthest to Hector Salamanca, the man who had pulled the trigger on his friend, and continued to taunt him over it for years afterwards.
When Hector suffers his stroke in Better Call Saul, Gus is able to call for a specialised doctor to nurse him back to a state where he is sentient and conscious, but unable to speak or move. Instead, Gus insists on keeping Hector in a state where all he can do for communication is ring his little bell attached to his wheelchair, with Fring shown to routinely check in with Hector and taunt him maliciously over how he has gotten his revenge on the entire Salamanca clan.
Hector is certainly no saint, however there's no denying that he felt the full force of Gus' revenge over anyone else in the show. Being kept in a medically terrible state, denied a recovery only so Gus could extract a full torturous experience out of him is a fate most would consider worse than death, which ultimately results in Fring's eventual downfall.
