At the beginning of Season 7, Buffy gets a new job as a School Counsellor at Sunnydale High, and we see her in action at the start of Episode 4.

What’s cool about this scene is that it’s a nice call-back to the earlier seasons. But rather than being a struggling student, Buffy is the one who’s in a position of authority. There’s also a nice balance of drama and humour. Whilst some of the students are seeking genuine advice, others have alternative motives – one boy even asks Buffy out on a date.

Yet the most memorable student is definitely Cassie, who tells Buffy that she’s going to die next Friday. It’s a fascinating conversation and a great hook into the rest of the story. Buffy’s concern is juxtaposed with Cassie’s relaxed attitude, making their exchange even more intriguing.

Though the remainder of the episode is fairly dispensable, this particular scene has a lot going for it. It balances drama with humour and demonstrates how much Buffy has changed since the first season.
