By the final episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spike had become a truly good man, atoning for his sins and sticking by Buffy through thick and thin.

Before the final battle against the First Evil, Spike is entrusted with an amulet to wear during the coming conflict. He doesn't know what it's meant to do, but knows it has to be worn by a vampire with a soul in order to work.

During the battle, the amulet begins to work its magic, wiping out the vast, powerful vampire army under the high school. As it does its thing, Spike says he can feel his soul and Buffy says she loves him before leaving him to "do the clean-up".

It's a powerful and fitting end to the vampire's epic journey, as he dies giving his life for the rest of the gang, destroying the city and finally redeeming himself for his horrible past.
