Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Ranking The Songs In Once More With Feeling
5. I've Got A Theory
Funny and affecting, this is the first ensemble song of the episode. It manages to balance everyone's voices with startling precision. Even Alyson Hannigan, another cast member averse to singing on camera, gets in on the action. Giles' thoughts on what's causing the random singing is very funny, mainly because the theory he dismisses later proves to be exactly what's happening. Anya, meanwhile, gets the chance to play rocker as she rages about bunnies over a heavy, high tempo beat.
This is the first time we get to hear the gang's voices (bar Buffy), and we're still delighted by their abilities today. Emma Caulfield might just be the break out, but Nicholas Brendan's uncanny ability to sing and maintain Xander's sarcastic and hyperactive persona is a joy to watch.
The crowning achievement, however, has to be Buffy's conclusion, where she manages to subdue her friends' worries and lets them know that they can handle anything as long as they're together, capturing the essence of the show in a moving and clever way. Aww.
