Casting Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Reboot

1. Captain Sisko - Sterling K. Brown

This Is Us Sterling K Brown
NBC

Sterling K. Brown is one of the most impressive actors to grace screens in the past few years. He was excellent as the lawyer Christopher Darden in Ryan Murphy's The People vs. OJ Simpson, and of course he is in Emmy award winning form in NBC's This Is Us.

With his gravitas, but good humour, he would be well placed as the leader of the last space station before the wilderness. He has shown on many occasions that he is more than capable of controlling the scene around him. Think of some of those confrontations with the Dominion - Brown would be excellent in a stand-off against the Cardassians.

But he also displays a vulnerability that is key to humanizing Sisko. One of Deep Space Nine's most successful themes was that of family and having Jake Sisko (or another character - Jake need not be a son) is crucial. Again, Brown has shown he can go straight for the heartstrings of an audience time and again. One needs only to watch an episode of This Is Us to see that!
