Something that makes each Doctor Who spin-off exciting is how it allows us to look at the Doctor's world from a different point of view. Torchwood skewered things darker, for instance, while SJA had a brighter outlook. Class presents the opportunity for another spin on the Whoniverse, and it turns out that is exactly the intention of the show's creator Patrick Ness.

"Being able to look at the Doctor Who universe from a different perspective... I would find that interesting as a viewer. And that's what I really wanted to do, as the writer of this. So the Doctor's come to this world, and he's done these things in this world, in this school. So what effect does that have on the people he leaves behind? How do they see it? That's what's really interesting to me. Just to get another point of view on this massive, massive universe in which there is so many stories to tell."

Going by this description, Doctor Who fans may think of Love And Monsters or Blink, two episodes that explored what life is like for the ordinary people who get caught up in the Doctor's world. It's an idea that has definitely got legs enough to fuel a whole show.

Though let's hope that Class is closer to Blink than Love And Monsters.
