Community: 10 Reasons Why Season 5 Is MASSIVELY Underrated

2. Chang Officially Became Part Of The Group

The delightfully absurd Ben Chang has had a strange run along the show from antagonist to wayward side-stories. Outside of the core eight characters of the series, Dean Pelton and Chang elevated themselves to main roles slowly through the series and became principal characters, but sometimes they lacked purpose.

In the show's fourth season, Chang's return with the elaborate "Changnesia" plot drew some laughs but ultimately felt tiresome. With Ken Jeong still circling Greendale in the fifth season, it would have been a tiring stretch if he became another "villain" for the cast to contend with.

Instead, Chang finally becomes part of the group, albeit the Save Greendale Committee and no longer a Study Group character. By making Chang one of the group, the fifth season could include the character in a number of the elaborate episodes and never worried about explaining his involvement.

While it is understandable to hark back to the days of season three when Chang was off on his own side adventures as a Greendale security guard, it was fun to see him be more social with the group.

His mini-twist at the end of the season was classic Chang, and the double fake-out was even better.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
