Community Season 4: 10 Reasons You Must Watch

4. Themed Episodes

Paintball. Paintball, Paintball, Paintball. That's all I need to say about that. Let's move on to the others... This carries on over from the Pop-Culture page, but most episodes focus on a theme; what I'm talking about here is when the theme is pushed to the top and blown up in a kaleidoscope of colours. Yes, I'm talking Paintball, I'm talking Christmas Claymation, I'm talking Halloween and ABBA, I'm talking, and perhaps the best example, Dungeons and freakin' Dragons. It's where Community truly stands apart from the rest of the field. It takes a theme and it runs with it, far to the hills. Its themed episodes are among the best of its episodes and no one will forget the group charging through a horde of costumed zombies to ABBA's Gimme, Gimme, Gimme or Pierce's Springsteen-esque rendition of Baby Boomer Santa ("...you're welcome for everything in the World") or Troy's heroic 'death' after being riddled by paint-pellets. Sitcoms will always throw in a themed episode, particularly around a certain holiday, but Community seems to do it on whim, effortlessly fitting it into the general arc of the season and due to the lack of logical reality surrounding the show, nothing ever seems out of place and at the same time, it's quite clear that nothing is as it is meant to be. It's just one of a kind...
