Community: The Best Episode From Every Season
1. Season 6: Emotional Consequences Of Broadcast Television
Though Season 6 contains many great episodes, including Queer Studies and Advanced Waxing, Intro to Recycled Cinema, and Modern Espionage, Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television stands above them as the best outing of the final season.
The series finale opens with another successful end to a semester at Greendale, as Elroy announces he is leaving for a job at LinkedIn. After his sudden departure, his friends head to Britta's bar, where they talk about what "Season 7," aka their next year, will be like. These potential futures are hilarious, yet they reveal that the show cannot keep up its high quality for a potential seventh season.
When Annie enters the bar, she reveals that she will be leaving for a new job at the FBI. Abed has also taken a new job as a production assistant. Hearing that two of his friends will be moving on while he is stuck at Greendale upsets Jeff, so he heads to the study room. There, Annie confronts him, and they share a heart to heart and a kiss. The Dean, Chang, Abed, and Frankie join them for an emotional hug as we say goodbye to the characters and show we've followed for six seasons.
The episode does a spectacular job ending Community. It has a funny and meta premise, completes several character arcs beautifully, features Abed's incredible monologue about how TV must be effortless, and leaves the door open ever so slightly for the long rumoured Community movie. Until that movie comes out, Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television is the final piece of Community we have. Thankfully, it ends the series - and Season 6 - on a high note.
