Daredevil Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen

8. Karen Page's Dark Past

Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page could have been a fairly one-note character, merely existing as Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson's perky and cute secretary (as she did in her brief cameo in the 2003 movie, played by Grey's Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo).

However, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight and his writers made a concerted effort to make Karen an integral part of the show. Her story is actually the catalyst for the main plot of the season, and right from the start the audience is shown a woman who is treated horribly by the corrupt world of Hell's Kitchen, but who takes her pain and tries her best to turn it into something positive.

She and Foggy Nelson even have their own side plot, which turns into an investigation of Wilson Fisk. This is then folded into the main plot of the show whenever Matt becomes involved as well. This Karen Page is no mere one-note character; she is an interestingly complex woman who can easily sustain a story with no superhero action.

The show also hinted a number of times at a mysterious, dark past for Karen, and this will undoubtedly be explored in future seasons. How will she cope with the emotional fallout from killing Mr Wesley, Wilson Fisk's right hand man? It appears there is a lot more to Karen Page than meets the eye.
