Daredevil TV Show: 10 Things It Can Finally Get Right
7. There Wont Be An Overly Contrived Love Story
One of the many gripes people have with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner in Daredevil is that their romance was so contrived. Marvel productions are not immune to this here's looking at you Jane Foster and Thor. Thankfully, the Daredevil TV series should be able to avoid this as any romance will not need to be rushed. Deborah Ann Woll has been cast as Karen Page, Daredevils long running love interest, so we can be sure that some romance will be present, but it wont be forced upon us as quickly as Daredevil and Elektra in the 2003 movie. Why is this acceptable when the Elektra romance failed? Over a TV series there is the time to allow a relationship to flourish, whereas on screen there is barely time between introducing heroes, villains, plot points and action to devote the necessary attention to personal relationships. A female companion is great for characters; it gives them depth and it lets the show have a new angle. The 2003 Daredevil film failed to do Elektra justice, and the painful relationship where they met antagonistically before coming together before being ripped apart (all in one film) should not be repeated again. Luckily, this is virtually impossible on a TV show, so it looks like they are in the clear with this point.
