Doctor Who: 10 Best Moments Of Series 8 So Far

6. Whatever Happened To The Half-Face Man? - Deep Breath

There has certainly been an effort to emphasise the thematic content of the series this year with episodes so far focussing on such big ideas as heroism, morality and fear. Naturally, then, the Twelfth Doctor's first episode after his regeneration centred around the notion of change, even down to pitting the Doctor against an enemy who mirrored himself; the Half-Face Man, a robot who had repaired himself with human body parts over and over again across centuries. However, there was one important different between them: one was lying about their basic programming. To let his friends go safe, the Doctor knew that the Half-Face Man needed to die. But the cyborg refused to kill himself just as the Doctor did to murder him. Nevertheless, the next time we see the Half-Face Man he is impaled on the spire of Big Ben, as a brooding Doctor stands in his spaceship above. So... who killed the Half-Face Man? It's a debate that fans have been arguing over for weeks now and seeing as we - probably, but you never know - won't get an answer they could be doing so for a long time yet. That fans are contemplating whether that pacifist children's hero, the Doctor, could have murdered someone in this way is testament to the volatile nature of Peter Capaldi's new Doctor. What do you think happened?
