The rip-roaring romp Robot of Sherwood came as greatly needed comic relief after the heavier first two episodes. Swapping the previous instalment's sterile spaceship trappings for sunny forests and medieval castles, it had a lightness of touch embellished by the rapport between one of the show's funniest ever double acts: the Twelfth Doctor and Robin Hood. Whereas other Doctors may have found the rambunctious Robin a laugh, the new Doctor had no time for either his guffawing or his green tights and constantly sparred with him. Whether they were locked in an archery contest or sword/spoonfighting, the Doctor and Robin were always trying to get one up on the other. After all the disagreements (and a script full of cracking lines from Mark Gatiss) the two came to a begrudging respect and accepted each other as good men. Here's hoping, then, that the two heroes meet once more as their hilarious first meeting made us all merry men (and women).
