Doctor Who: 10 Most Disturbing Storylines

1. Amy's Pregnancy

The Idea: A group out to kill the Doctor kidnap Amy; Amy wakes up about to give birth, with an evil space religion standing over her, ready to take her baby when it's born. When Amy cried in the Dalek Asylum that she couldn't have children, did anyone wonder whether that was down to some kind of operation, or whether it was psychological? Because the storyline that revolved around Amy's pregnancy was so damn disturbing, Series 6 greatly underestimated it. Amy was captured and made to give birth, alone on a space station in the future, only to have her baby taken from her by soldiers. Just when she thought she'd got Melody back, she melted in her arms. That's enough to haunt you for the rest of your life, and it's just as well that Series 6 had a break in the middle to give Amy a little bit of recovery time; surely though, there should have been some kind of mention later on in the series about the effect that something like that would have on you? The storyline has enraged many, claiming that it was far too horrible for Doctor Who, far too easily dealt with, and that it used Amy only as plot device, giving no consequence to the horrors of the plot. Surely, it has to be the most disturbing moment of the new series?
