Doctor Who: 10 Most Ludicrous Villains And Monsters

3. The Abzorbaloff - Love & Monsters (2006)

doctor who peter kay This is the last entry on the list from Nu-Who and boy have I saved the best for last. Of the many bad moves you can make when crafting an episode of Doctor Who, one of the real biggies is using a monster designed by a nine year old. The Abzorbaloff was selected as the winner of a "Design Your Own Monster" competition on Blue Peter and was created by nine year old William Grantham. Though it wasn't the fact that Grantham was a poor designer. In fact, his original concept might have had some promise if it had been fleshed out in the right way. It's that he was nine and an almost universal fact is that nothing created by a nine year old will fit in well with an episode of a TV drama. Though, to be fair to William Grantham, had his original design been followed more closely, it might have been a tad less embarrassing. The Abzorbaloff was originally envisaged as being the size of a double decker bus, looked a lot more menacing, wasn't related to the Slitheen and, most importantly, was not played by Peter Kay. Love & Monsters was a bad episode full of really lame comedy (especially that oral sex joke at the end) and it wasn't helped by a monster that not only looked ridiculous but was also performed pretty badly. No offence to Peter Kay as an actor but overacting and keeping his Bolton accent for the Abzorbaloff really didn't help matters.
