Doctor Who: 10 Scenes That Had Us In Tears

5. Turn Left And The Doctor's Death

In the episode "Turn Left", Donna Noble goes to a fortune teller and ends up seeing another world and a darker one at that. This episode shows what would have happened if Donna's first day of work at the temp agency she worked at during the events of "The Runaway Bride" had never occurred. What would have happened if Donna hadn't gone to work there and hadn't met the Doctor? The answer to that question is horrifying. In the course of the episode, the Doctor ends up dead and everything he did for Earth after meeting Donna is undone. The world falls into chaos simply because the Doctor never met Donna. In the end, Donna saves the Doctor with the help of a certain former companion and ends up correcting the timeline. This episode serves as probably one of the best companion focused episodes in the series. What is the role of the companions in the show? That's changed a lot but this episode manages to show just how important they are not only to the Doctor personally but to the fate of the very world. The companions matter and this episode shows why. While the entire episode is sad and emotional, there's something about one shot that sticks with you: Donna sees the Doctor's shoes sticking out from underneath a cloth on a gurney. The Doctor is dead. In a show all about multiple lives, there's something about seeing this that hits home in a bad way.
