Doctor Who: 6 Time Lords We Want Back (And The Actors Who Should Play Them!)

5. The Monk, A Meddling Time Lord

The Meddling Monk The Monk was, other than Susan, the first member of the Doctor's species that we ever met. When the Doctor first encountered him, he was hanging out in 1066 England where he planned to destroy an invading Viking fleet by using "atomic bazookas". As Zaphod Breeblebrox would say, ten out of ten for style, but perhaps minus several million for common sense. And why was he going to do this? Basically, he wanted to do it for the lolz. He thought it would be fun to mess around in history and see what happens. Because of this attitude he was, at least on the TV series, less of an evil menacing threat than he was more of just an irresponsible oaf. Not truly evil, per se, but very much someone who didn't stop to think about what he was doing. When he resurfaced later in the Big Finish audios, he continued to be more or less of a clown. Well, until he directly or indirectly caused the deaths of...well, a lot of rather important people. Bringing him back could be wonderful fun. He'd make a good comic character, but in the hands of a skilled actor could also become something a bit more. Not exactly menacing, not exactly threatening, but also not someone you'd care to turn your back on for any length of time. It could also be quite interesting seeing what happened to him following the events of the audios, and what happened to him during the Time War. Who Should Play Him:movie-nerd-patrick-stewart-returning-to-x-men-1 Patrick Stewart. No question. Start to finish, he's the one. He could do an excellent job with the comedic parts of the role, and could do just as good of a job making the character a bit more serious as needed. He has proven himself as an excellent actor, and we all know it's only a matter of time before he's on the show, so why not have him play the Monk? I think he could be ideal for the role. The character is basically reasonably harmless and playful, but very, very irresponsible. I could see him making the character into a silly old man sort, and then pulling him back to make him at least somewhat menacing. Plus it's always nice to see an actor of his caliber getting work.
