1. Lucie Miller/To The Death
"But you never came...you left us to die." The story that arguably begins the path of the 8th Doctor towards the events of The Night of The Doctor. This set of stories has it all. Earth is desperately in need of a doctor as a mysterious disease is steadily killing off the world's population. The Doctor's last remaining relatives and his companion Lucie have been desperately trying to reach the Doctor, but for some reason, he isn't answering their calls. Then, just when things look bleakest it is revealed that the plague is just the prelude to a massive Dalek invasion. The depiction of an already shattered Earth, falling deeper into chaos while the Doctor's friend and family are dragged down with it, is heartbreaking When this story ends, The Doctor has one more reason to despise the Daleks and longtime fans have been treated to the return of a character that hasn't been seen since the days of William Hartnell. Lucie Miller/To The Death marks the end of Lucie's time in the Tardis and her departure from The Doctor's life leaves him devastated. The stories that follow see McGann's once joyful Doctor plunge to the depths of despair and on the path to becoming the War Doctor. Paul McGann has finally earned his swan song and a regeneration story (albeit brief) for the ages. Yet he lives on in Big Finish Audio Adventures and long may he continue to reign as The Doctor.
