Best Episode: The Night Of The Doctor - Some of the finest seven minutes of Doctor Who that has ever been on screen. Worst Episode: The TV Movie - Amazing Doctor, shame about the story. For a character that has had two official appearances on screen - and one of those an internet minisode - there is so much to love about Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor. Most people generally slate his TV movie - a lot of that is probably justified - but it's usually tempered with "but Paul McGann was awesome." It is probably part or the reason it has never really been excluded from Doctor Who canon. There is so much passion in his performance, eloquence in the way he speaks and even in the Lord-Byron-esque costume he is still able to control the room. Fans were re-introduced to the Eighth Doctor in the true surprise of the 50th anniversary celebrations, The Night Of The Doctor, and it immediately set the internet abuzz with demands for more Eighth Doctor stories on screen. While it probably was the right decision not to show more Eighth Doctor during Peter Capaldi's first year, don't be surprised if he shows up again in 2015. In fact, he might have been higher on this list had there been more of him on TV. Like the Sixth Doctor, the Eighth Doctor is best served with the Big Finish audios. From the Lucie Miller years to the 50th anniversary audio The Light At The End, there is so much to enjoy. His interaction with Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor was one of the highlights of that 50th celebration audio adventure. Let's hope for more Eighth Doctor adventures to come!
